I wasn’t always concerned about my health, though. I was overweight most of my life and had the “I’ll always be the fat girl” mindset. Pretty sad, eh?

Thankfully in April of 2008 I had “the moment”. I can’t tell you exactly what triggered “the moment” or why I had it, but I’m glad I did. After failing so many times to lose weight it finally hit me that I had to get real about my health. It was no longer just about a number on the scale, but about my overall health and quality of life.

I was weighing in at 247 lbs in April 2008. The day I had “the moment” was the day I quit Weight Watchers online and joined a gym. It’s not that Weight Watchers is a bad program, but I knew what I needed to do to lose weight and didn’t need Weight Watchers help any more.

Hitting the gym for the first time was scary, but I eventually became comfortable there. I also did some personal training for a few months and that really helped me learn about weight lifting and how to use different gym machines.

By watching my calories and exercising I’ve lost 67 lbs since April 2008. Now, at 180, I’m much happier and healthier though I still need to lose about 30 more lbs. It hasn’t always been easy, though, and 2009 was a struggle for me.

So then, Tea at Dusk is serving two purposes: to help me stay on track with a healthy lifestyle and to share my journey.
